c. 1765 Colonial to Revolutionary War Era, Wooden Stave Canteen with Wood Bands, Very Fine.

c. 1765-80 Late French and Indian to Revolutionary War Era Use, Wooden Stave Canteen measures about 7.5” long and 5.75” in diameter. It has a nice intact original wooden hole flat spout, with a cork in place (likely not original) and its original stopper seems to have been pushed inside where it currently resides. This very scarce unusually designed and constructed example has four wide wooden bands, two on each end, instead of the more commonly seen metal bands. Its original interior wooden staves are attractive having deep rich even overall patina and honest wear. The staves are mostly tight, though some have slight separation due to natural wood shrinkage over the centuries and some expected edge chips from use. This is a very pleasing, whole and original nicely designed early American Wooden Stave Canteen that is attractive for display.
