c. 1870 19th Century, Original Native American Plains Indian Decorative Pipe Bag, Choice Very Fine or better.

19th century Native American Plains Indian Pipe Bag (possible Sioux) that is both beaded and quilted. The leather is brain tanned and is still supple. This Pipe bag is sinew sewn, with the beautifully designed and created beaded portions being highly attractive on both sides of he bag. The upper deerskin top portion measures about 5.5” high x 4.25” wide, showing honest wear from actual use with a 1” internal split, the top edge having a red silk hand-sewn rim. The beadwork appears near mint, having been carefully cared for. Deerskin tassels at bottom are intertwined with 1” long tin bell shaped devices filled with red dyed feathers which provides a light rattling noise effect when moving in use. Overall, a beautiful museum quality, original authentic Plains Indian decorative Pipe Bag that has significant eye appeal and is excellent for display.
