1864 Presidential Campaign

Abraham Lincoln Double Breasted

Black Velvet Lined Vest with 22 Oval Portraits

of Bearded Abraham Lincoln & 22 American Flags
1864 Abraham Lincoln Presidential Campaign Vest, double-breasted made of black velvet faced with 22 Color Portrait Images of Abraham Lincoln in Oval and 22 United States Flag Color Images, having 2 side pockets and a breast pocket, with golden-tan silk lining, the outer back side made with a dark brown linen, Used, Very Good to Fine.

This historic 1864 Abraham Lincoln Presidential Campaign Vest was well worn by a Lincoln supporter no doubt at many Political events during the period. It is well worn having various scattered pulls and tears, possibly the result of brawls over the candidates. The back area about the neck and sides shows tears and pulls to the outer brown linen and extra wear to the velvet, possibly from being knocked to the floor. The front and neck velvet show heavy wear from use and at the right pocket outer edge, being well worn. The main focus is the front velvet displaying twenty-two separate images of Lincoln with twenty-two American Flags in a seeming design pattern. Lincoln’s bearded image has a colorful oval surround that appears floral, all six small round buttons are matching black velvet covered. We have not encountered another example of this impressive 1864 Lincoln Presidential Campaign Vest. Ex: Virginia Museum Display, with its printed display plaque.
