Carte de Visite of Jefferson Davis “Dressed as a Woman”
1865-Dated Civil War Confederate States President Jefferson Davis Depicted “Dressed as a Woman When Captured” Carte de Visite, Very Fine.

A scarce Civil War CDV, measuring 2.5” x 4", being a combination of a real photo of Jefferson Davis' face, and added cartoon artwork depicting him wearing women's clothing, with his boots showing below his dress. That was the prevalent report as to how he was dressed when Captured by Union Cavalry near Irwinville, GA on May 10, 1865. This CDV has a1865 dated copyright imprint at bottom by B. Leverett Emerson, Boston. Captioned:

"Now therefore I Jefferson Davis, President of the Confederate States of America, - all I want is to be let alone!"
