“It is asserted that ‘the average good American woman’s indifference to woman suffrage’ is an unanswerable argument against the movement. If this be true, there is an unanswerable argument against every good work and every reform movement of the present day, or of any past day, for it is a fact that ‘the average good American woman,’ and her brother, ‘the average good American man,’ are shamefully indifferent to the things that make for the public good...”

The National American Woman Suffrage Association was an organization formed on February 18, 1890, to advocate in favor of women's suffrage in the United States. It was created by the merger of two existing organizations, the National Woman Suffrage Association and the American Woman Suffrage Association. Founders included: Susan B. Anthony, Carrie Chapman Catt, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Lucy Stone.
