c. 1850 (ZACHARY TAYLOR) Pair of unusual Decorative Period Snuff Boxes, of Burl Wood and Pressed Horn, both Very Fine.
This Pair of Zachary Taylor Decorative Pair of Snuff Boxes includes:
1. c. 1850 Decorative Burl Wood made Snuff Box consisting of a circular box and a fitted cap, the cap featuring a bust-length figure of Zachary Taylor in his military dress uniform with cannons, other militaria, Flags, and Bunting in the background, 2-5/8” in diameter x 5/8” tall, Very Fine. It is difficult to tell if the design on the top of the box was hand-engraved or pressed, but the workmanship is excellent. Minor loss on the circular, horn band that allows the top and the bottom to come together.
2. c. 1850 Decorative Pressed Horn made Snuff Box consisting of two standard pieces that fit together, with Taylor facing right and with even better quality to the design elements, 2.25” x 1-18” (from bulging center to bulging center, Very Fine, but with a crack and rejoined bottom case and with some loss around the rim of the cap. The horn from which this snuffbox was made was very thin, almost see-through.
