c. 1775 American Revolutionary War, Leather and Wood Waist Cartridge Box with 21 Cartridge holes, Complete, Choice Very Fine.
This rare, choice original Revolutionary War waist Cartridge Box has 21 holes in the inner wood block that are just a bit larger than 50 caliber. This leather box measures 6.5" wide x 3.25" deep. It is an unusually small size rarely seen especially in this choice condition. The original leather is stiff yet still bendable and the top flap and back are covered with original waterproofing likely being a tar coating of some sort. This is an impressive quality complete box with original finish and hand-stitching. There is a similar example shown in George Neumann's reference "Encyclopedia of the American Revolution". These Revolutionary War cartridge boxes don't show up very often in this size or in this superior quality. A nice example for any Colonial or Revolutionary War military related collection. |
