c. 1775 Revolutionary War Period, American Spontoon Head, Blacksmith Hand-Wrought Iron, Very Fine.

American Revolutionary War Period Spontoon Head measures about 18” long overall including the 3” tang and 2” wide. This example is very solid and original. It has a large forged iron double edged blade, showing a superb medium raised central ridge that was finely blacksmith forged down the entirety of its blade. Minor tone and expected age patina with its full shaft intact, ready for military action once placed into a long pole. SEE: Very similar in design to an example listed as number “83.PA” on page 213 of George Neumann’s reference book titled "Swords and Blades of the American Revolution.”
