1901 Historical Reference Illustrated Book titled, “THE BOOK OF THE PRESIDENTS: WITH BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCHES” by Charles H. Grosvenor, Published by the Continental Press, Washington D.C., Very Fine. This beautifully presented highly impressive, large volume reference book has 193 pages, includes the first 25 United States Presidents. It is fully illustrated and described for each president from George Washington to Theodore “Teddy” Roosevelt. Each U.S. President with his full page Engraved photogravure impressed in a heavy page and with individual protective printed tissue guards. Some images measure 8” x 12” engraved from and after the original historical paintings of each. Hardcover with blue fabric and gold-gilt stamping. This major book measures about 16” x 12” and is almost 1-3/4” thick by volume. The covers are lightly worn and the fabric is splitting along the top spine edge and worn cloth on corners apparently from being pulled from that available edge, yet the internal pages are in excellent condition and mostly bright but with an occasional expected ghosting. The plates are truly impressive, some adjoining printed tissue guards are somewhat folded or wrinkled. In our estimation, the value of this book is in the plates, which would all make excellent individual displays properly matted and framed. The back has a section with facsimile, “Autograph Letters” from the Presidents, plus another section with their respective family coats of arms. |
