1755 French and Indian War Period, Map of North America titled, “A Map of the British and French Settlements in North America,” Engraved by J. Hinton, Choice Very Fine.

This original Map originates from Universal Magazine published in 1755. The Map is of the United States and Canada, which would appear to be an early reduced copy of John Mitchell’s map, as it measures 11.5” x 15.5” being professionally framed fully to 16.5” x 20.75” shown through special UV Plexiglas. It is well printed and finely engraved on clean laid period paper with descriptive details and a large Title Cartouche at lower right. Some folds and nicely well repair to the midsection having two .25” parts horizontally cut and repaired with contemporary paper. The boundaries of Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia extend to the Mississippi, although there is a very curious identification of the region south of Georgia, which is noted as “The South Part of South Carolina”. Earl Granville’s Property is noted and showing it extending from Albermarle Sound to the Mississippi. Beautifully matted and framed being ready to hang on display. Provenance Ex: EAHA Auction of April 24, 2015 Lot 283.
