George Washington Portrait Oil Painting on Board After the Original Painting by Gilbert Stuart

Click an Image to Reduce It
c. 1876 2nd half 19th century Centennial Period, George Washington Portrait Oil Painting on Board, after the original painting by Gilbert Stuart (American 1755-1828), Framed, Extremely Fine.

This Oil Painting is on Oval thin board of about 1/8” thick, then later mounted to additional stiff masonite board backing for framing and support. It is our estimation that this George Washington Portrait dates to the second half 19th century, perhaps dating about the time of the 1876 American Centennial. There is some trivial possible retouch at the upper left edge near the frame seen only when examined under UV light and touchup to the gilt on the frame. It is unsigned and undated, presented in an antique decorative gold-gilt decorative Oval Wood Frame and having a significant crack through it at 3:00 (that appears repairable), measuring to fully 28” tall x 24.5” wide. A handsome painting for display, ready to hang on display.
