c. 1917 World War I "Souvenir de France" Textile, Choice Extremely Fine.
Not listed or illustrated in "Threads of History"! 21.5" x 22", rainbow-colored printing on fine, white silk, with a woven, tasseled border. Some rubbing of the colors and light soiling on the left side. Stamped "Mastai Collection" in lower right, indicating that this was once part of that famous collection of textiles. Two legends include "In Memory of my Service in France With U.S. Army" and "The Ship That Brought Me Home." At lower right is a drawing of the U.S.S. "Seattle" that saw service in the French theater. A neat souvenir that has got to be rare, only because of the limited number of sailors that could have been transported back on this ship.
