c. 1783, Print, "A British Sailor Offering A Sword To An Unarmed Spanish Officer To Defend Himself, At The Attack Of Fort Omoa, Which Was Taken By Escalade, On The 20 Of Octr. 1779, under the Command of Captn. Dalrymple and Commodore Luttrell," Choice Extremely Fine.
15" x 9.25". This nicely executed engraving shows a Spanish officer reaching for a sword proffered by a British seaman. In the background, defenders of the fort's walls can be seen repelling what appears to be an overwhelming force. "Engraved for Barnard's "New Complete Authentic History of England" (with numerous superlatives appended), printed in 1783 and which included much of the story of the Revolutionary War. Light age toning, but otherwise choice.
