1760-90 (Mid-to-Late 1800s) Needlework Sampler
c. 1760-90 (Mid-to-Late 1800s), Hand-Wrought Needlework "Alphabet" Sampler, Very Fine.
This is a nice but undated needlework sampler, no date or place, likely from the mid-to-late 1800s. These samplers allowed young women to practice their craft but have become highly collected for their social history and window to the past. This example features one full alphabet and two partials. Some of the thread is lightly colored, almost blending with the background, but the remainder is dark and still quite legible. Measures 7.5" x 4.75" by sight and framed in wood frame to an overall size of 8.25" x 5.5". Some thread loss is noted in the upper and lower left corners. Otherwise in nice condition, framed and ready for display.
