Juror List from James Sherlock, High Sheriff of Boston
c. 1687, JAMES SHERLOCK, High Sheriff of Boston.
c. 1687, Rare original Manuscript Listing naming 14 Jurors who were impaneled in Boston to hear the case of the "King vs. James Mathews," 1 page, measuring 10.5" x 6.5", Very Fine. Well penned on clean, period laid paper with some expected scattered tone, each of the 14 Jurors listed by name, and all noted as living in Boston. Boldly Signed, measuring a huge 3.5" long: "James Sherlock Sheriff" at bottom. Sherlock was appointed in 1684 by Sir Edmund Andros, the Royal Governor of New England as the Sheriff of Suffolk in 1687, and he was also temporarily imprisoned on the overthrow of Edmund Andros in 1689. After his imprisonment at Fort Mary, he was sent back to England along with Ex: Royal Governor Andros. The very first extremely early Colonial Boston judicial document signed by Sheriff James Sherlock we have ever offered. Exceedingly rare.
