19th Century, Toleware Tin Serving Tray with Modern Hand Painted Portraits of Civil War Hero Admiral David Farragut and his Family, Choice Extremely Fine.
Hand-Painted, One of a Kind, Large 28" x 20" Antique Toleware Tin Serving Tray with modern Hand Painted tribute decorations featuring an American Patriotic Motif, and Portraits of Union Civil War Naval Hero Admiral David Farragut, his wife and his son. The Tray is Signed and Dated by the artist on the reverse - "Richard Listenberger / 2009". The central area of the Tray features three hand painted, 3/4 length portraits of Admiral David G. There is an image of a Sailing Ship and an Heraldic American Eagle with a Federal Shield along with text that reads simply "D. G. Farragut". The raised rim features various nautical and patriotic images including American Flags, anchors and Federal shields. Quite an unusual historical collectible for display.
The following is taken from an online reference detailing the artist - "Richard Listenberger, graphic designer and visual communications consultant, has a passion for military history that spans 30 years as a collector, researcher, writer, dealer, and specialist in the restoration of fine art and militaria. With a BFA degree in advertising and marketing from John Herron Art Institute, Indiana University, Richard has owned and managed his own business since 1975.

As well as major corporate clients, he has provided award-winning creative services for a wide variety of history and Civil War publishers, museums and military organizations. He has created and merchandized his own Civil War products and publications in addition to writing and producing a documentary play on the American Revolution.

Richard's specialty is researching and collecting American military headgear, uniforms, art, swords and accoutrements of the Revolutionary War through 19th Century, with specific attention to Federal period military fashion of militia and volunteer regiments. He is a member and past President of The Antique Arms Collectors Association of Indiana; member and past Commander of The Benjamin Harrison Camp of Sons of Union Veterans; and long-standing member of The Ohio Valley Military Society."
