July 14, 1796-Dated, Partially-Printed Document Signed, "John Gaston," as Justice of the Peace, Sterling, Connecticut, Being an Prison and Arrest Warrant for a Debt Due, Choice Very Fine.

John Gaston at Sterling, Connecticut, has signed this 8" x 9" Document, being the order to arrest and commit to the "Keeper of the Goal" (Prison) in Windham (CT.), Warden Johnson of Coventry, for not paying a debt of Two Pounds, Thirteen Shillings and Four pence. It is officially signed at bottom by John Gaston as Justice, and is in overall excellent condition. The reverse is noted as having collected the monies by the sheriff. An interesting, original period document and how seriously a debt collection was to be handled.
