1839 Autograph Letter Signed Sent to "Hon. J.K. Paulding"

(JAMES KIRKE PAULDING), Secretary of the Navy under President Van Buren.

Autograph Letter Signed, "W.H. Roane," as Senator from Virginia, on plain, embossed paper, sent to "Hon. J.K. Paulding," May 15, 1839, Tree Hill, Richmond, VA, 10" x 8," Choice Very Fine. Roane introduces William Walker of Norfolk, VA, who was seeking, "...to obtain a situation in the Navy for a son who is very anxious to enter that service." Hand-delivered Letter, no postmark, in excellent condition. Paulding (1778-1860) was Secretary of the Navy under Van Buren from 1838 to 1841, and a prolific literary figure. Roane was a congressman from Virginia from 1815-1817, and a Senator from 1837-1841.
