c. 1840 Spectacular Masonic Apron Hand-Painted On Silk

c. 1840, Superb Ornate Hand-Painted Silk Masonic Apron with Fringe, Professionally Framed, Choice Very Fine.

This original, full size Masonic Apron measures about 20" x 17.5" including its Green fringe, and is made from Red Silk, somewhat age-faded, with beautiful Hand-painted motifs in mostly gold tones. The outer decorative fringe is a dark and still-vibrant green. Vignette scene depicts a Native American Indian offering his "smoking" Peace Pipe to a White Man, dressed in his claw hammer coat and stove top beaver hat, making him look quite Abraham Lincoln-like. A teepee in a stand of trees appears behind them. Additional more traditional Masonic symbols are also present including: a sunflower, a crescent moon with seven stars, the "all-seeing" eye is prominent at top center with Justice Scales, plus Clasped Hands on either side, and lower borders of laurel leaves, all being hand-painted in bright gold gilt. Some paint loss from actual wear on the motifs has occurred, primarily to the All-Seeing Eye in the center, yet this remains a remarkable and well-preserved example of this style of Masonic Apron. Professionally framed and inset, fully measuring to 22" tall x 24" wide, nicely mounted upon an archival white linen background now ready to hang on display.
