September 26, 1778 Sixty Dollars Continental Cft.

Continental Congress. September 26, 1778. Sixty Dollars. British Continental Currency Ctf., Choice Very Fine.

Fr. CC-86Cft. Revolutionary War period British produced, Continental Congress currency Counterfeit type. This is a great example of "economic warfare." The British attempted to debase the American paper money which the American economy was dependent. They attempted to flood their Counterfeit notes into circulation. Thus, there was a need for special "Detector" notes used at banking centers that were made off the original plates for comparison to notes presented to detect such Counterfeits. This example type is specifically listed as a known Counterfeit in Newman. This current note is evenly circulated, has nice margins with wear from use which attests to its very successful being passed!
