Rare "OSWEGO & ALBANY TOWING COMPANY" Erie Canal Boat Tow Permit Form

November 16, 1841-Dated, Partially-Printed Document, Erie Canal Boat Tow Permit Order Form, marked "OSWEGO & ALBANY TOWING COMPANY - Oswego Station,...." NY), Extremely Fine.

This is an original, exceedingly rare, Tow Permit Order Form for the Boat "Montague" to be towed through the ERIE CANAL. It is boldly printed in deep black upon white wove period paper that measures 2.75" x 7" with a clean appearance to its attractive face side. Prior collector mounting stains and traces on the blank reverse side. Historic and Important to early American commerce, this is the very first of this Permit Form we have seen and offered. This quite ornate printed form reads, in full:

"This Permit is to be left with the Station Keeper at Syracuse -- OSWEGO & ALBANY TOWING COMPANY - Oswego Station, -- Syracuse Line, Boat Montague -- Master: The Superintendents of the Company's Teams are hereby authorized to tow this Boat to Syracuse this present trip, provided the Master conforms to all the regulations of the company. (Signed) William Avery, Station Keeper."
