He led the drive in New Hampshire that led to ratification of the United States Constitution on June 21, 1788. He was elected President of New Hampshire (now Governor) in 1786, 1787 and 1789; led to ratification of the United States Constitution on June 21, 1788, and later appointed by George Washington as a the first United States Federal Judge for NH.
